Spirituality and Money

There is a disconnection in the world between Spirituality and Money.
And if we want to see positive change globally, we need to heal it.

This wound is fueled by the belief that Spirituality should be kept separate from money, to maintain its “purity”, or reduce the possibility of negative energies like greed, corruption or deceit impacting spiritual work and spaces. This highlights the fact that as a collective, we have consciously and unconsciously associated negative beliefs with money, creating internalized programming that links Money and “Bad”. Most of us have it and if we’re not working on consciously creating healthy beliefs around money, then we’re unconsciously accepting the internalized programming.

This belief permeates our culture on all levels and in all ways. I experienced an aspect of it in graduate school, with the implicit message that if social workers really cared about what they were doing they wouldn’t charge a lot of money for their services. You can see how well that’s working by checking out your local social service agency – full of burnt-out workers, and under-supported clients. So, heart-centered and spiritual services are separated from financial abundance, while other services and including medical, legal, and business are expected to have high fees and high earnings. See the problem here?

Money is just a Vehicle, it’s Currency, a form of Energy – you expend energy to make money, and you use money in exchange for goods or services that you value.

I believe the world is in desperate need of Higher Love, Divine Intelligence, and Spiritual Awakening – these are energies that I value greatly and because of that I have invested heavily in them. I have spent a significant amount of time, money, and effort on my spiritual development, which has included many books, classes, retreats, and advanced spiritual training programs. And I continue to do my work to heal internalized programming that separates Spirituality and Money. This shows up for me in places like the guilty feeling I have when I offer someone a healing service that I know has the potential to radical support them and costs $300. Or the discomfort I feel when a client tells me that they think my therapy fee is too high, even though I graduated with honors from a top ten master’s program and have over ten years of clinical experience.

Separating Money from spirituality and heart-centered services has real negative impact in the world beyond internal discomfort. We have all seen the destruction that results from people with negative intentions and large amounts of resources – this in of itself is reason enough to do the internal work that brings Money back into alignment, association, and harmony with Love, Ethics, Good Deeds, and Spiritual Services – so that we can heal the collective conscious energy around it.

In order of us to do the Greatest Good in the world, we need the strongest Vehicle – a Courageous Heart, Strong Values, Discernment, and MONEY honey!!!

Imagine what this world would look like if we associated money/abundance/wealth with the people who were diligently using ethics, universal values, and spiritual perspectives to inform their work and services? What would change if we started investing more of our resources into our own healing and services that support community wellness? I know from my own life, how my world changed once I started investing in my own healing and empowerment, and offering those teachings, tools, and services to others.

My invitation and call to action to you is to do the work to Heal your relationship with money, so that you can be a part of untangling the association of money with evil and weaving the energy of money back into the heart. Of course, the abundance of money will challenge you to clarify your intentions and actions, to make sure you’re monitoring your negative ego and human propensity towards selfishness and greed. In that way, money can be a teacher for your own personal development. You are fully capable of doing the work to make sure your thoughts, beliefs, words, and actions are in alignment with your highest good and supported by the energy of money. You won’t be perfect, you will make mistakes, and those mistakes provide valuable information that informs your next best move.

Life is meant to be lived, loudly, boldly, and abundantly. Stop playing small, listen to the dreams in your heart, and work to create the financial flow you need in order to manifest those beautiful desires into our shared reality. You were given that dream in your heart from a higher power and your purpose is to create it. You won’t be able to do it in isolation, reach out for support, and here are some ways to get started:

  • Read Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass at Making Money: Mastering the Mindset of Wealth. It’s a “no-nonsense” guidebook to exploring your hang up around money and creating a manifesting mindset.
  • Make Money Positive playlists and listen to them on your run, when you shower, as you dance with your partner while making dinner.
  • Allow yourself to become excited and playful with money. Talk to people about it, read about it, write about it, and dream about it. Ground it in the intention of what the money would do for you, your family, your community and the world. Let yourself be moved by its momentum and joy and be curious and observant about where this leads you.

Do the work to Heal your money Wound. Do your part to create the collective Shift around money and make this world a better place. So that value driven individuals who use awareness and discernment to build families and businesses are the ones getting Rich in the world –
Imagine all the Good that would come from that…
